The Shameful and Irresponsible Sarawak Member of Parliaments

As highlighted by a blogger couple of days ago, 29 member of parliaments including seven from Sarawak failed to submit their questions to parliament recently. What amazed me, is that some of them were former ministers, deputy ministers seasoned MPs.

If the new MPs can get away with answers such as “I didn’t know the procedures” etc, those who have been in parliament for 20 years definitely can’t. For whatever the reasons they gave – they’ve betrayed the rakyat trust on them and also that of the Prime Minister who has chosen them to represent Barisan Nasional.

Datuk Haji Wahab bin Haji Dolah – Igan
Datuk Wahab won the Igan parliamentary seat without contest during last March 8 election. Since he won the seat without contest he probably thought, he can skip the ‘question and answers” session in parliment.

Billy Abit Joo – Hulu Rejang
Billy Abit Joo – have been Hulu Rejang MP for 20 years now. If he can get away during the 20 years of his tenure as MP for Hulu Rejang, there is no reason why he can’t this time.

The fact that the Kayan, Kenyah, Punan, Penan, Iban and other in Hulu Rejang constituency continue to elect him shows that he had served them. But kinda pity those who have put their trust in him and being repaid in this manner.

Hulu Rajang is one of the least developed area in Sarawak. To get to Long Jawe for example took two days long boat ride. There is no way to know whatever happen in the outside world in this remote place.

Ding Kuong Hiing – Sarikei.
Typical of any BN reps. During his campaign Ding promises all sort of things – including setting up of Tunku Abdul Rahman College in Sarikei. However, when it comes to performing his duty as MP – “aiyoo…forgot la”. Well Ding, you can get away this time, we know you’re busy lobbying for TARC.

Dato’ Dr James Dawos – Mambong
Just like Tiki, James Dawos didn’t think the Bidayuh has any question to ask. They don’t have representation in cabinet – who care? Bidayuh didn’t care only Tiki does.

Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe – Mas Gading
The only matter to this guy is that he is in the cabinet. He went on revolt recently over his dismissal – trumpeting the Bidayuh have been betrayed and sidelined. Perhaps, still being bitter about the whole thing he decided the Bidayuh shouldn’t ask any questions anymore.

Dato’ Sri Muhammad Leo Michael Toyad Abdullah – Mukah
Rumor to be next TYT of Sarawak, therefore he can get away with it. Anyway, there is nothing Mukah ever need it didn’t have. A university, a SCORE, including the Chief Minister of Sarawak!

William @ Nyallau Anak Badak Lubuk Antu.
This guy seems to have forgotten the “Antu” at lubuk Antu once he elected. Kick him out comes next election would you antu.

29 MPs didn’t submit their questions to parliament

It a waste of public funds. We have put our trust on MPs to do what they are elected for, some just taken our trust for a ride instead. Here is the list (via this blog)

2. Datuk Haji Wahab bin Haji Dolah – Igan – BN
3. Dato’ Dr Abdullah bin Md Zin – Besut – BN
4. Ahmad Lai bin Bujang – Sibuti – BN
5. Datuk Anifah bin Aman @ Haniff Amman – Kimanis – BN

11. Dato’ Sri Muhammad Leo Michael Toyad Abdullah – Mukah – BN
12. Dato’ Seri Rafidah binti Aziz – Kuala Kangsar – BN
13. Datuk Dr Tekhee @ Tiki Anak Lafe Mas – Gading – BN
14. William @ Nyallau Anak Badak Lubok – Antu – BN
15. Datuk Haji Yusoff Bin Mahal – Labuan – BN
16. Charles Anthony a/l R Santiago – Klang – DAP
17. Er Teck Hwa – Bakri – DAP
18. Hiew King Cheu – Kota Kinabalu – DAP
19. John a/l Fernandez – Seremban – DAP
20. Prof Dr P Ramasamy a/l Palanisamy – Batu Kawan – DAP
21. Abdullah Sani bin Abdul Hamid – Kuala Langat – PKR
22. Haji Ahmad Kassim – Kuala Kedah – PKR
23. Chua Tian Chang – Batu – PKR
24. Gobalakrishnan a/l Nagapan – Padang Serai – PKR
25. Dato’ Kamarul Baharin Abbas – Telok Kemang – PKR
26. Manikavasagam A/L Sundaram – Kapar – PKR
27. Dato’ Rashid Bin Din – Merbok – PKR
28. William Leong Jee Keen – Selayang – PKR
29. Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Bin Ahmad – Hulu Selangor – PKR

Here are some of their excuses, but whatever the excuses are, they have betrayed us.

Will Pak Lah Gets Enough Votes To Retain Umno President Post Comes Disember?

Entertaining a wild thought. Is there a possiblity of Umno president, Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi of not getting enough vote to contest the top post in the party upcoming election?

I like to think so. Last Wednesday there were banners erected near Sheraton Subang by so call “Gabungan Ahli Umno Selangor” in favor of Najib and Muhyiddin to lead the party instead of him and current deputy.

In the grassroots level, Umno ground continue to swell, prompted “apple polishers” in the party black out the news and issue statements after statements in show of support for the president. Afraid of being outdone by fellow Umnoputras – this guy issued his here.

Unfortunately, PM believes these “apple polishers”. Hence, his insistent to continue with the quota system at least in the upcoming Umno election unaware that it is a double edge knife. If the current situation continues, there is a real possiblity that he won’t garner enough votes to contest the top post.

Abdullah is not helping himself by leaving it to his deputy Najib, the task of meeting grassroots leaders when he’s the one who needs their support the most.

Study found money does buy happiness after all

Are you one of those who still believe the old sayings, money doesn’t buy happiness, and people on their deatbed never wished they’d spent more time in the office? If you do – too bad. Money indeed does buy happiness.

According to research done by two economists from the University of Pennsylvania conclude money does indeed bring happiness, even if it doesn’t guarantee it. Interestingly, their findings contradict a widely-cited 1974 happiness study whic become known as the Easterlin paradox theory.

The study found gains in income, which provided more than basic necessities, didn’t make people happier — it just re-set the bar for them wanting more. “To put it in today’s terms, owning an iPod doesn’t make you happier, because you then want an iPod Touch,” the piece says.

Subramaniam Independent Makkal Osai suspended again?

A Tamil daily Makkal Osai, has been suspended for a week by the Home Minister. No reason were given but Lim Kit Siang in his blog wrote “it was due to too much coverage of Pakatan Rakyat news”.

The suspension took immediate effect yesterday will mean – Makkal Osai will not be on the streets again until next week, awaiting the fate of its appeal to the Home Minister.

This is not the first time the Tamil daily courting controversial. Last year it was suspended for publishing smoking Jesus Christ caricature.

It was back the street on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 after one month suspension imposed by Malaysian authorities.

The daily subsequently apologized and accepted by Christian community leaders. The appeal to reduce the suspension was also rejected.

Is this the first sign of repression and crackdown on human rights and the little space opening up in the printed media after the March 8 “political tsunami”?

Najib and Muhyiddin as running mates?

Najib and Muhyiddin as running mates? That’s pretty intriguing. However the Umno guys in Selangor thought they would make a good mate. Wait! Isn’t the current Umno president and prime minister said he will stay on – at least not before the end of the year?

If this is so? I wonder who would be Abdullah Badawi running mate? This banner was erected near Sheraton Subang jaya, where Selangor UMNO held their meeting.

American legendary rocker Bruce Springsteen endorses Obama

Legendary all-American rocker Bruce Springsteen has thrown his red bandanna into the political ring, today endorsing Barack Obama for President on his website. Wrote Bruce:

“LIke most of you, I’ve been following the campaign and I have now seen and heard enough to know where I stand. Senator Obama, in my view, is head and shoulders above the rest”

He has the depth, the reflectiveness, and the resilience to be our next President. He speaks to the America I’ve envisioned in my music for the past 35 years, a generous nation with a citizenry willing to tackle nuanced and complex problems, a country that’s interested in its collective destiny and in the potential of its gathered spirit. A place where “…nobody crowds you, and nobody goes it alone.”

The bill targets pro-anorexia websites and publications that encourage girls and young women to starve themselves.
